Carla "Janine" Purvis

I hold a LCSW (Licensed Clinical Social Worker) and LCAC, (Licensed Clinical Addictions Counselor) and I am certified in Community Reinforcement and Family Training (CRAFT), and I am also a Certified Gambling Counselor. I have worked in the social work field for over 20 years. I treat various issues including depression, anxiety, grief, trauma, anger issues, addictions/substance abuse and gambling. I help family members of substance use disordered persons set boundaries, utilize better coping skills, and practice self-care.

I believe that a lot of what troubles us is connected to the way we think. Our thoughts, belief systems, and coping skills are learned. When these lessons are negative, we may feel anxious, angry, or depressed. As a result, we often do not take care of ourselves or cope in health ways. We resort to destructive behaviors such as addictive behaviors, codependency, or excessive worry. Or we may shut down.

If we tap into faulty thinking and work to re-frame it, we can change the way we feel and this will often lead to change in how we behave. I would like to help you explore your thought patterns and discuss the ways they play a role in whatever it is that is troubling you. I will show you how to change any crippling thoughts and increase your coping skills so you can relieve your pain.

I will help you calm your mind by introducing you to healthy ways to relax. I will introduce you to both cognitive and behavioral coping skills, and you will gain a set of tools you can use to manage your symptoms. You will leave with at least 5 methods you can use to help you improve your life.

If you are ready to make changes, give me a call at 812-200-8177 to get started. I look forward to working with you.
